Edward Bates of Boston, Massachusetts
By Sandy Bates, 2-04-2008

Edward of Boston is often confused with Edward of Weymouth, but they were two different individuals. Edward Bates of Boston, England, came to Boston, Massachusetts in 1633 on the ship the Griffin. He was made a Freeman on March 9,1637. He was born in 1605 and must have died by 1645 as his wife was married to William Fletcher in November 1645. Edward was married to Lydia Fairbanks. Son. John. born to them Jan. 23, 1642, was known as John of Chelmsford. One member states that Father of Edward of Boston was an Edmund Bates. The information that is on hand seems to be confusing as to dates of children's births, etc.

We need more proof that Edmund is Edward's father
