William of New
Jersey
By Sandy Bates
William of NJ was a Quaker who had left England due
to persecution, going to Wicklow, Ireland. Here he ended up in jail for his
beliefs. In 1671 he bought of William Penn, land in West NJ. In 1675 he
settled at Newton, opposite Philadelphia PA. He died in 1700. His Sons
Joseph and William are the ancestors to a large line of Descendants. Either
Joseph or William had son William of Hanover. Proof is lacking. This William
however had son Ephraim who went to Noble County, Ohio. Hopefully more proof
will come to light on this Family Line.
